I have been a practicing midwife in the state of Vermont for 30 years. A handful of women and I are the founders of VMA.  I am happy to offer my services to you.  Included in Birthrite’s Midwifery Care services are:

1 hr. long prenatal care

Your prenatal appointments will include your physical, emotional, mental , and spiritual needs regarding birth. You will have guidance about what you are experiencing in your pregnant state and how best to feed you and your baby. You will receive as much parent and birth education as we can fit in during your pregnancy.  You will know and understand everything I know and understand about your pregnancy and baby.  Your family is more than welcome.  Dads or second parents are encouraged to join the prenatal appointments.

1 prenatal home visit about 3 weeks before your due date.

I offer a 6 week birth course twice a year.

This course involves 2 hr long classes that include: “normal birth”, possible complications and what to do about them, fathering/circumcision, breastfeeding/cesarean birth, researching immunizations, and transitioning into parenting.  They usually occur in the spring and the fall.  Please call my above number or email me for more information.

My full attention and skills during your labor and birth

I will also bring a second midwife and or birth assistant.  I will join you in your labor respectfully and skillfully.  My job is to keep you and your baby safe.  I will teach you how to release your baby into the world while releasing pain that is common with labor. My goal is to help you gently bring your child into your loving arms and help you discover how incredibly awesome birth is.  That means how incredibly awesome you are as a woman giving birth.

         Water births are included.

Postnatal care after the birth of your baby

You will receive 3 home visits.  The first visit is 1 day after your birth.  This will include a newborn exam and new mom care.  This is a great time to get answers to the many questions that arrive in 24 hours.  You will get encouragement and advice in breastfeeding.  Your baby’s birth certificate will be filled out this day.   Your second postnatal visit will be 3-5 days after the birth.  Included in this visit will be offered the newborn screening test .  The third home visit will be 2 weeks after your birth.

Six weeks after you baby is born, you will receive a 6 week check in my office and guidance for family planning if you desire.

My slogan is “How a baby is received into the world is how they perceive the world.”

I offer a financial sliding scale and accept insurances including Medicaid.
